What is Day Treatment?

A facility providing an alternative, community-based treatment option offering intensive intervention and preventative services. Day Treatment Programs provide social workers, communities, schools, and courts with treatment options in efforts to prevent the further deterioration of behaviors and mental illness, including providing groundwork to prevent placement alternatives. Day Treatment Programs also provide additional therapeutic support services for adolescents and children transitioning to the community from out-of-home placements.

Criteria for acceptance into day treatment:

  • A primary mental health disorder (involving behavioral and/or emotional difficulties).
  • An inability to obtain sufficient benefits from less restrictive treatment services.
  • A reasonable likelihood to benefit from services based on information available.
  • Be experiencing significant dysfunction in basic domains of living, in need of transitional services after placement in an inpatient placement, residential placement, or acute crisis. Domains of life may include: school, home, community.
  • To prevent more restrictive placement or reintegrate into the community following placement.

Length of Placement:

  • The average length of services is 3-6 months, depending on the progress of the individual and specific circumstances.
  • Placement termination is based on achievement of identified treatment goals.
  • Formal treatment reviews are conducted every 30 days.

Description of Services:

Individual Counseling: Individual Counseling sessions are conducted on a regular basis, with 1 - 2 sessions per client, per week. These sessions work to address specific identified issues.

Groups are facilitated in discussion, educational and experiential formats on such topics as anger management, coping skill development, social skill building, human development, issues of abuse, dealing with mental illness and self-esteem.
